How to add a website/blog to Yahoo! Site Explorer

Yahoo! Site Explorer is a service helping view websites' information in Yahoo! search index and allow website owners to see extra information about their websites such as any errors detected by Yahoo!, submit sitemaps to Yahoo!, etc...

Here are simple steps to add a site or blog to Yahoo! Site Explorer in order to access the above functionalities provided by Yahoo! Site Explorer.

Step 1: Login using Yahoo! ID
Login to your Yahoo! Site Explorer using your Yahoo! ID account (click here to go to Yahoo! Site Explorer website).

Step 2: Provide the URL of your site
Register the site that you would need Yahoo! control over by entering the URL of your site in the text box under "My Sites" tab. Then click "Add My Site".

Step 3: Verification
In this step, you need to verify your ownership of a site. This can be done by uploading a blank HTML file, or paste a <META> tag in the <head> tag section of your website/blog html.

In my case, I add the tag generated by Yahoo! Site Explorer to my Blogger blog home page's <head> tag.

<meta name="y_key" content=" Unique code here" />

After adding the <META> tag in the <head> tag section of your website/blog html, Click "Ready to Authenticate" button in Yahoo! Site Explorer.

Step 4: Access your website's data
After your website has been verified, click on your website link under the Site tab or click the "Explore" button near your website's/blog's name.

You will then be directed to the “Summary” screen. This screen contains high level details of the most important information on your site such as :
  • Feeds: feeds added into your website/blog
  • Crawl Errors: to tell about any errors that Yahoo! search engine has encountered while crawling your site.
  • Search Traffic: data about queries, searching trends, etc....
  • Statistics: contains information about the number of your pages crawled by Yahoo!, links to your website/blog, etc...
  • Authentication: the status of your website's or blog's verification.
  • Actions: history of actions you have made.
