Wordiness in IELTS or TOEFL iBT Writing task 2

According to Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verbosity), 'verbosity' or 'wordiness' in writing relates to the use of more words than is neccesary for 'clear' and 'concise' expression.

It would be tempted to use redundant words or phrases as you may run out of ideas and you’re asked to write at least 250 words in IELTS writing task 2 and about 300 words in TOEFL iBT writing task 2. However, wordiness may distract your examiners and encourage them to skim over your writing. Therefore, you need to clearly illustrate your points in a concise writing manner.

The following are more concise recommended expressions together with their long ones:
  1. Using nowadays, now, today, these days instead of "In this day and age"
  2. Using because instead of "Due to the fact that" or "On the basic of the fact that"
  3. Using about instead of "With respect to"
  4. Using successfully instead of "In a successful manner"
  5. Using probably instead of "In all probability"
  6. Using blue instead of "Blue in colour"
  7. Using circular instead of "Circular in shape"
  8. Using investigate instead of "Conduct an investigation"
  9. Using prefer instead of "Has a preference"
  10. Using inside the house instead of "Inside of the house"
  11. Using I believe that instead of "It is my belief that"
  12. Using in fact instead of " As a matter of fact"
  13. Using for this reason instead of "On account of this"
  14. Omit "I feel that" if already use "In my opinion"
  15. Using city people instead of "People who live in the city"
  16. Using the statement "he likes music" instead of "He is the kind of person who likes music"
  17. Using "Many students join" instead of "There are many students who join"
  18. Using "It is clear that" instead of "It is clear for us to see that"
