How to clear temporary Internet Files using Disk Cleanup tool in Windows XP

Removing the contents of the temporary internet files in Window XP is often a vital maintenance task. This article describes how to use the Disk Cleanup tool in Windows XP to help you achieve this task.

Step 1: Run the Disk Cleanup Utility
  • Click Start -> Run.
  • In the text box in the pop up window, type cleanmgr and click OK..


  • In the new small pop up windows, select the drive-letter for the current Windows installation and then click OK.
  • You may have to wait for some minutes before Disk Cleanup calculates how much space will be free.


  • Select Temporary Internet Files from the list in the new pop up windows after Disk Cleanup tool finishes calculating.

  • Click OK and Yes to confirm deletion.
